Dr. Alison Berglund, endurance athlete, physical therapist, and owner of 6:33 Physical Therapy, talked to us about what causes injuries and how strength training can help mitigate the risk of injury. She also covered common injuries in endurance athletes and specific strategies to address those.

About our speaker:

Dr. Alison Berglund is the owner of 6:33 Physical Therapy and an endurance athlete herself. She is originally from Rhode Island and has slowly made her way south after attending undergrad at University of Delaware and receiving her DPT from UNC Chapel Hill.

When Alison first started running marathons in college she experienced the frustrations of working through injuries with healthcare providers who did not understand her desire to move, train, and compete. They wanted to sideline her completely rather than modify her program. We all know that you can't tell a runner to "just stop running" and expect them to listen--and she didn't! As a healthcare professional and athlete, Alison's philosophy is to keep clients moving and training while working with their team of coaches and trainers to make appropriate modifications to their training plans.

After her first marathon, Alison was hooked on endurance events. Since then she has completed several more marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons. With each new endeavor Alison is fascinated by how strong and resilient the human body proves to be. She loves to help her clients overcome their challenges and crush their own goals. Alison believes that with proper training, progressive overload, and adequate recovery, we can work towards whatever crazy endeavor is next on the list!
